After a few years in a different format under a different webmaster, the site has been returned to its 2015 design (with a few tweaks), since the webmaster wasn't updating the content lately. The old version is still online in case you need to access any information from it.

January 11, 2015

The new version of the site is online... hope you like it! It's done with clean, logical, standards-compliant HTML, some simple CSS to format it, a little bit of PHP to put common headers/footers/menus in the pages, but nothing all that fancy... sometimes "keep it simple, stupid" is the best approach, even for Mensans. Unlike earlier incarnations of the site, its layout isn't forced into a fixed-pixel size, so it should adapt flexibly to the whole range of devices it may be viewed upon.

Your New Webmaster,
Dan Tobias

As I have been working on the website, learning my way around and poking around behind the scenes I have to say that Alex did an incredible job here... the site is very well organized and, once you know your way around, very easy to maintain (even with my limited set of tools).

That said, there are some things I would like to change on the site... these are mostly long term so don't expect to see big changes quickly.

I have started updating things on the site since taking things over. The officers pages (secure and public) have been updated and the latest ExComm minutes have been uploaded (secure). The Calendar for July and August will take another couple of days to update and upload so please bear with me as I come up to speed on the website. Dan Rhea

I have added a couple of features to the website worth mentioning: There is now a button on the home page that links to our newly created Facebook group. We only have 27 members as of today, but we're growing! Facebook is yet another way of being instantly connected to your fellow Broward Ms. And on the information front, the secure part of the website now holds the Broward Mensa By-laws and the minutes of all recent ExComm meetings, in addition to the member directory and past editions of the BrowBeat newsletters.

American Mensa's Publication Recognition Program has nominated our website for an award in the Outstanding Website (Medium Group) category for 2010. It's nice when our hard work is recognized :) Congratulations and good luck to all other nominees! (For more info, check this link).

We had some technical difficulties with the Google Calendar so we have a new one. If you had previously subscribed to the calendar, please subscribe again to the new one. Sorry for the inconvenience!

December 29th, 2009

We have made the transition to the new Calendar. Additionally, the January 2010 issue of the BrowBeat is now available. Hope everybody has a great New Year's celebration!!

December 24th, 2009

Happy Holidays everyone!

We are adopting Google Calendar as our new calendar standard. This will provide a new feature: the capability to import all or selected events from our Calendar into your own Calendar program. This way, you won't forget about the Broward Mensa events; they will be incorporated into the calendar you already use. All confidential information (phone numbers, emails, street addresses) will still be kept behind the Members Only section, under a new page I have just created: Member Directory.

You can always download the electronic version of the BrowBeat newsletter in order to look at the Calendar the way you were used to. I hope many of you take advantage of the new calendar features. I am particularly biased towards using the "Agenda" view, vs the "Week" or "Month" views, since it allows me to see a decent quantity of upcoming events without needing to scroll up or down. But that's just me.

As always, your feedback is appreciated.

October 4th, 2009

The October issue — along with most of the past 2009 issues of the Browbeat newsletter — is now available in the Members-Only area.

I have also put more detailed instructions to access the Members-Only section of the website for those of you who have not set up a login and password with American Mensa.

September 1st, 2009

The September issue of the Browbeat newsletter is now available in the Members-Only area. Back issues for 2009 will be available soon.

Also, National has provided the e-mail aliases we needed. They are listed in the Officers page.

August 29, 2009

That didn't take long!

It was brought to my attention that the site was giving open access to our officers' e-mail information.

The matter has been resolved; we now have two versions of the Officers page, one on the public site, and a full-featured one on the Members-Only section. There are some officers whose information needs to be available to the public. I will be working with National to get them public e-mails that can be displayed on the site.

I was also told that the main information window was way too little. I have adjusted some heights and widths to help make the main display somewhat bigger; it is now able to display a larger amount of information.

As you can see, I have been quite busy lately. Yes, this is still the Broward Mensa page, you're not on the wrong site.

I have done my best to present a more current look to our website. I hope you like it. There's always room for improvement, though, so I welcome suggestions and requests; compliments too, of course. *smiles*

I have added a few new sections to our website: FAQ, Members Only, Links, and the Webmaster Corner. Feel free to browse through the site and familiarize yourselves with the new features we now have available.

The FAQ section is pretty self-explanatory. The new Members Only section will allow you, after you log in, to see the unedited version of the calendar, as well as have access to electronic copies of our BrowBeat newsletter, once they become available. I will be implementing additional features in the future. I have also created a "Member Links" section within the new Links page, where you can see fellow Broward Mensans' personal webpages. However, since I don't yet know about the existence of any, I will have to wait for you to bring them to my attention *laughs*.

If you want something to be put on the website, it seems like a helpful addition, and I'm tech-savvy enough to do it, I'll be glad to help you find a place for your submission here. Also, if you can provide more thorough -or plain better- information than the one you find here, please do contact me; we all want the best content to be displayed on the site.

Expect a few more changes in the coming months; I will be snapping pics here and there at our upcoming RG, which I hope to upload to the website somehow; it's looking a bit too formal right now. Jason Knight, our esteemed LocSec, will get his own page too. He will be giving me a written piece sometime after the RG, which I will be uploading to the site.

I guess that is all for now. I will be posting additional entries here whenever changes to the site are made. See you @ the RG!

Your Webmaster,
Dan Rhea
