Mensa Outdoor - Bicycle tour of western Broward. This is intended to be a 30-mile ride, and not for the timid. We will go thru Coral Springs, Parkland, and similar western communities. There will be several rest and water stops, as well as a lunch stop. Total riding time should be about 4 hours plus rest and lunch stops. Contact Jordan London.

Mensa Outdoor Bicycle from Greynolds Park in North Dade to the Overhaul Inlet Bridge. We meet at West Greynolds Park to leave our cars (admission $1.50 per person) and bicycle over to Miami Beach and down to the bridge. Most of the ride is on protected lanes or on the sidewalk. On the way back, we can stop at the Spanish Monastery on Dixie Highway. BYO lunch to have at Greynolds. Nominal cost $4.00 per paid Member, $5.00 per non-member. Contact Jordan London.

If you haven’t, come and meet some very nice folks - some you’ll know, and there’s always new folks as well. It’s Bring-A-Dish (side dish or main entree type), and a $4.00 contribution. PB Mensa - Summer Solstice Party - 5pm till? - The Summer Solstice celebration will take place one day after the actual Solstice. But we can toast it anyway. There will be barbecues, a great swimming pool, clear skies, and a wrap up or wind down with desserts at Elissa's, within walking distance of the pool area. Bring something to throw on the grill, any other picnic-type food to share, and your swim gear. Drinks, plates, utensils, chips & the like will be provided. If it rains all day, forget grilling outside and bring prepared food instead. Directions: from I-95: Atlantic Avenue exit in Delray Beach; west; cross over Congress Avenue; continue to Military Trail; right or north on Military Trail; at second traffic signal, Lakefront Blvd., left or west into Highpoint, sections 1 & 2. Mensa Outdoor - Kayak at Key Biscayne/Crandon Park. We will rent our kayaks at Crandon and paddle around toward Virginia Key and Bear Cut. There will be mangroves, wildlife, and perhaps some manatees. BYO lunch we’ll have at Crandon after the paddle. We are renting the kayaks in advance in order to guarantee that we have sufficient boats. Contact Jordan London- Cost for paid Members will be approximately $45.00 per person (this is a private concessionaire at Crandon, and a little expensive).

Sunday Brunch - 10:00 AM at McDivots at Carolina Club The buffet is back! Sunday Bruch like you remember. Brunch delights, soups, salads, desserts. Tables of goodies to nibble on all morning long. Heaven on a plate for $17.95 per person. McDivots is located at 3011 Rock Island Road (1/2 mile south of Sample Road) in Coral Springs on the west side at the top of the beautiful white clubhouse. Fourth Saturday Fun - Young Mensan Activities - 10 AM @ Wannado City Sawgrass Mills Mall, Sunrise. Join us on our most popular outing. Just like a small city with businesses like Publix and 120 professions to choose from, your child will open their own Bank Account and earn Wannado buck to deposit and withdraw with their own ATM card. This is a kids role playing theme park located in comfortable air conditioning where kids do what they wannado. Children $15.95. Food takes real money! Wannado City is near Flamingo Rd and Sunrise Blvd. We will meet by the ticket booth. Look for the Mensa Sign. RSVP to Micki Hawn.

Sun. Jun 29 Mensa Outdoor - We are going to the Miami SeaQuarium at Key Biscayne. I don’t have to describe what’s there, It’s just fantastic. Cost for admission will be $60.00 Adult and older child , $40.00 for kids 3-9, $00.00 kids <3 years old. Includes guided tour of facility, as well as free roaming and looking and seeing. Jul 4-6 Mensa Outdoor - Friday-Sunday, July 4th-6th - Camp and Kayak, Juniper Springs State Park in the Ocala National Forest. You can go up Thursday afternoon or Friday. OAK-provided dinner one night, you are responsible for dinner other night and BYO breakfasts and lunches. They have a myriad of activities, in a very pleasant environment, including clean bathrooms with showers. We anticipate some kayaking, hiking, and for those who wish bicycling and exploring. OAK can lend tents, mattresses, sleeping bags, soft coolers. Cost $25.00 per paid Member, $30.00 all others. Kids <12 ½ price. Contact Jordan London.
Wed. Jul 09 Mensa Outdoor - 7:00 P.M. - Jai Alai at the Dania Beach Fronton games on Dania Beach Boulevard (a couple of blocks north of Stirling Road) off Federal Highway (US 1). Billed as the fastest sport in the world. Food, Simulcasts, Betting if you wish. A cool evening in a different atmosphere. No admission fee, and food is $1.00. Contact Jordan London.

Sun Jul 13 Mensa Outdoor - Kayak around Wilton Manors, total 6 ½ miles. Lunch supplied at Richards Park area, which is also where we put in. So lunch will be around 2:00 P.M. We get to wave at everyone in their backyards during the trip on this quiet, safe, urban waterway. Total time on the water will be about 4-5 hours. Single kayak cost $40.00 Per member, $45.00 Per Non-Member includes OAK-provided lunch, single kayak, kayak accessories. Double kayaks are available for approximately $25.00 per person. Sun. Jul 20 Mensa Outdoor - Airboat Ride from Everglades Holiday Park on Griffin Road just west of U.S. 27. Out into the Everglades, and lots of noise and fun in a covered airboat - keeps the sun (and rain?) off you. Alligators, other aquatic and land animals, alligator "wrestling", ersatz Seminole village and souvenirs. Cost $22.00 per person. Contact Jordon London.
Sun. Jul 20 Sunday Brunch - Come one. Come all to the Olive Garden in Coral Springs at 11am. Let’s meet for this well known chains endless salad bowl, fresh from the oven bread sticks and pasta. Comfort food time. Good Italian food, moderately priced, ordered from the menu so that you can get as much or as little as you wish, friendly service and great company. Jul 26 Fourth Saturday Fun - Young Mensan Activities 10:30 AM A fun filled day at the Museum of Discovery and Science Play in the exhibits, take in an IMAX movie and catch a bite to eat at the Subway sandwich shop on the premises. 401 SW 2nd Street in the Arts & Science District. Drive east on Broward Boulevard to SW Fifth Avenue (Commodore Brook Ave.). Turn right. The Museum will be on the left and Science garage on your right. Parking is not free. We will meet at the front entrance. Look for the Mensa Sign. Admission includes exhibits and one IMAX® show and is Adults $14 and Children (2-12) $12. Sun. Jul 27 Mensa Outdoor - Kayak the Loxahatchee RiverDepending on conditions on the River, up to the second dam. If the river is clear and the water is high, with no obstacles, we’ll go to Trapper Nelson. Otherwise, only as far as the dam. In either case, OAK-provided lunch on the river, either at Trapper Nelson’s or the dam. Cost including kayak, accessories, and lunch, $50.00 per person. Contact Jordan London.

Fabulous First Friday - At the Miami Science Museum Planetarium, 3280 S. Miami Avenue, Miami, a monthly FREE live star show beginning at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rock-music-filled laser light show the entire family will enjoy. Mensa Outdoor - Bicycle Hobe Sound south to blowing Rocks Preserve. A relatively short 12-mile bicycle ride from Martin County Park in Hobe Sound to the Blowing Rocks Preserve. The ride is about one-half in the streets and half on the sidewalks. Since this is summer, it is likely that there will not be any significant wave action in the rocks. However, there is a guided tour of the Preserve, and you can spend a pleasant hour walking around. We will have BYO lunch at the beach sitting on blankets (or chairs, for those who bring them). Nominal cost $3.00 for Members, $4.00 Non-Members, and no charge for kids under 12. Contact Jordan London.

Sun. Aug 03 Mensa Outdoor - Our five-mile leisurely walk on the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk. 9:00 AM starting time. This is a leisurely walk starting from the Johnson Street bandstand and going north to the white condominium apartment building bordering Dania Beach. For the real hardy, they can continue the walk up to the Dania Beach Pier, another half mile each way. Afterward, brunch at a restaurant on the ocean. If they’re too full, we’ll go across A1A to Capone’s, about a block south. Contact Jordan London.

Sun. Aug 10 Mensa Outdoor - Snorkel Biscayne National Underwater Park. We snorkel in Biscayne Underwater Park off Homestead. Reefs are 6 to 16 feet deep, and the sightseeing is superb. A wide variety of fish, some various eels, lobster, gorgeous reefs. This is an afternoon Outing - the boat leaves at 1:30 P.M., and returns about 5:00. Snorkel gear is included in the price, tho you can bring your own - no discount for your own gear. Dinner afterward at local restaurant, traditionally Golden Corral right nearby and close to the Turnpike for the ride home. At the date of this writing, Cost $45.00/Member, $50.00/Non-Member. This includes the surcharge for fuel - however, between June and August, prices could continue to elevate and the cost may be understated. Contact Jordan London.
Sun. Aug 17 Sunday Brunch - Vienna Cafe 11:30 AM. A Delightful Buffet for $ 16.75 each. The fare includes Sonoma Salad, fresh fruits, cheeses, smoked salmon, shrimp, Eggs Benedict, grilled chicken, turkey, a waffle station and an omelet station and more! Coffee and tea included. Sun. Aug 17 Mensa Outdoor - 9th annual Anniversary Party. ANNIVERSARY PARTY - MONTHLY PARTY - FIVE-MILE WALK. It’s OAK’s 9th Anniversary, and we are combining the whole enchilada into one great day. At the Hollywood North Beach. On the beach side, right next to the water entrance, a BBQ, Swimming (we’ll put up two instant canopies on the beach for sun protection, plus one in the picnic area), Snorkeling off the beach. Start in the morning, and run until late afternoon, or until you’re ready to leave. EVERYONE is welcome, Members or not. No fee for this one. Contact Jordan London.

Mensa Outdoor - Monthly Dinner. At the Royal India Restaurant on Griffin Road in Dania Beach. Sample some of Broward’s best Indian cooking in a wonderful atmosphere, really good food, very moderate prices. Sat. Aug 23 Fourth Saturday Fun - Young Mensan Activities - 11 AM Bowling @ Brunswick Lanes in Margate. Located at 2020 North State Road 7, this is a bright, family friendly location. Each game of bowling is $1.00 per person and shoe rental is $3.16, all paid in advance. Of course, if you want to bowl longer, they will let you! Then we can stop for a hamburger at a close by fast food place. Please call ahead as the time is not definite and depends upon when the lanes are open after League Play. Please RSVP to Micki Hawn. Mensa Outdoor - Catamaran Sail out of Fort Lauderdale. The Morning Cruise, from 10:00 A.M. to Noon. For this one, we have arranged that you can bring all your own food and beverages, tho the sail includes soft drinks, water, and snacks. There is also a cash bar available for those who wish to indulge. We’ve chosen this one because it is the least expensive with the most options. Cost $32.50/Adult Member, $20.00/Child. Non-Members add $5.00. Net proceeds will go to the Wildlife Sanctuary at Flamingo Gardens. Contact Jordan London

Mensa Outdoor - Blue Springs State Park in mid-State, near Orange City, about 3 ½ - 4 hours drive north. A beautiful part of Florida. We will spend Saturday driving up and have dinner at a nearby restaurant. Sunday kayaking at nearby DeLeon State Park, have a group dinner, get some sunning and swimming in as well. Monday we’ll have a short bicycle ride and then leave for home. You bring breakfasts and lunches for you. Cost includes tent sites and group dinner Sunday night, $40.00 Members, $45.00 Non-Members.
